I don’t know about you, but my feed is constantly strewn with articles about building multiple streams of income. Whether it’s on Facebook, Linkedin, or even here on Medium, it seems like everyone has a side hustle or is trying to start one.

The gold standard is to build something that will give you passive income. Meaning you put the effort in once and you get to continually reap the benefits.

So is Medium a good choice for that? It’s complicated, but maybe.

As a top author on the platform, I took 6 months off to find out.

After my experiment, I want to share my stats, my thoughts on why everything happened the way it did, and explain my new strategy moving forward for building a more robust, kind of passive income machine here.

I was writing on Medium consistently for 10 months. I quit writing regularly shortly after my best month. I had an article do really well, wrote one more a month later, and didn’t check back in for 5 months…
