Today, I became a published author…and I honestly never saw it coming.

I’ve always thought that immortalizing my words in print would be a goal I’d set for myself one day, but turns out, it happened while I wasn’t even trying.

Let’s dive in.

Writing the story that made it happen

I heard a story that J.K. Rowling came up with the idea for Harry Potter from a dream while visiting Mexico and living out of her car. (Turns out that’s totally incorrect…moving on).

So much wealth had come out of a single dream (so I thought). Which made me think that maybe I should try to do the same thing; put my dreams to use.

As someone that has a ton of crazy dreams that frequently leave me exhausted in the mornings, I started busying myself by writing them down in as much detail as I could remember.

To be honest, they come out a sloppy mess without much coherence or consistency, as dreams do. But they’re a spark of creative inspiration to be sure, a good starting point. I can work with that.

One day in February, I sat down to flesh out one of those messy notes into a story I’d share here on Medium. I found myself organizing bits…
